ZnO Nanopowder For Rubber Zinc oxide has a wide use in rubber processing. This is due to the fact that this compound of zinc can modify the properties of rubber in many useful ways, and all these applications have been found to be useful in industries. Rubber has an extensive use in industry. Although automobiles are the largest consumer of rubber products, they are not the only consumer of rubber. Rubber products also find usage in medical equipment, toys, sports and some other areas.
ZnO Nanopowder for Rubber However, ZnO is the most widely used material in automobile tyre manufacturing. In fact, ZnO Nanopowder for Rubber is indispensable in tyre manufacturing. Although ZnO is used mostly as an activator in the reaction between Sulphur and Zinc during vulcanization of rubber, this is not the only use of this compound. Apart from acting as an activator, the unreacted portion of ZnO is available as a reserve which can neutralize the acidic decomposition products arising out of the presence of sulfur. In fact, the use of ZnO Nanopowder is multifaceted. It also helps with chemical reinforcement of rubber and makes rubber resistant to heat, aging and compression fatigue. Zinc Oxide is used as a crosslinking agent for rubber in various industrial applications. Owing to its crosslinking property it also works as an accelerator with some elastomers. ZnO can enhance the mechanical properties of rubber. This includes hardness, tensile strength, tear etc. However, there are some drawbacks of using ZnO too. It can also make rubber poor scorch resistant, low flexibility, very high compression etc. Yet, owing to its crosslinking ability with rubber, it is widely used as an accelerator and co-accelerator in vulcanization of rubber. ZnO Nanopowder also finds use in preservation of latex since it can prevent latex from reacting with enzymes and degrade the material. ZnO can also be used as a fungicide to prevent the growth of not only fungi, but also mold, mildew etc. Rubber is the most preferred insulating material for use in high voltage cable installations. Here too ZnO has a vital role to play. The ZnO Nanopowder is inherently a dielectric material which can prevent corona effect in high voltage cables. It can resist corona effect and thus make long distance transmission of electricity possible without disastrous consequences. Moreover, it can help rubber preserve its properties at high temperatures by preventing its decomposition. Other Uses of Zno Nanopowder This nanopowder is also used to make rubber stable to heat. This can make rubber suitable for various usages such as in making vehicle tyres which are likely to subject to high heat such as in commercial vehicles. ZnO Nanopowder can make vehicle tyres stable at high temperatures. ZnO also helps with latex gelation and this is pretty useful in rubber processing. It can stabilize the latex foam used for manufacturing mattresses. ZnO also offers stability to rubber from UV lights since it has the unique property of absorbing Ultra Violate lights. It can stabilize rubber if it is exposed to UV rays for a long time. It is also used for pigmentation of rubber as it can enhance rubber health because of its high refractive index and brightness. It also makes rubber very white and this finds wide use in making surgical gloves, rubber sheets etc. ZnO is also useful in making synthetic rubbers like chloreprenes, polysulfides etc. It can also make rubber more conductive to heat and help in rapid heat dissipation.
